I constantly felt tired and unmotivated in life, until I adopted these 7 morning habits

Dr. Girraj Dhakad

There’s a huge difference between feeling alive and feeling like you’re just existing.

The difference lies in your daily habits. For years, I was stuck in a cycle of constant fatigue and lack of motivation.
I felt like I was just going through the motions of life, not really living it.

But then, I discovered the power of morning habits.

Switching up my morning routine wasn’t just about waking up earlier or drinking more coffee. It was about adopting 7 specific habits that transformed my life.

Now, I want to share these habits with you because if they worked for me, they might just work for you too. So get ready, because here are the 7 morning habits that took me from tired and unmotivated to energetic and driven.

1) Start your day with gratitude

It’s easy to wake up and immediately start thinking about all the tasks you have to do.

But I found that starting my day on a negative note was a surefire way to feel drained and unmotivated before I even got out of bed.

That’s when I stumbled upon the power of gratitude.

Gratitude isn’t just about saying thank you. It’s about appreciating the good things in your life, no matter how small they may seem.

Each morning, before I even get out of bed, I take a moment to think about three things I’m grateful for. These can range from big things like my family and friends, to smaller things like a delicious meal I had the night before or a good book I’m reading.

Starting my day with gratitude instantly boosts my mood and gives me a positive outlook for the day ahead.

Remember, it’s not about comparing your life with others but appreciating what you have. So give it a try, you might be surprised at how much of a difference it makes.

2) Incorporating exercise into my morning routine

I used to think I wasn’t a morning person. Getting up and doing anything more strenuous than making coffee seemed impossible.

But then I decided to try a small experiment. I started with just a few minutes of stretching each morning. Nothing too intense, just enough to get my blood flowing.

To my surprise, I found that this little bit of movement made a huge difference in how I felt. Suddenly, I was waking up with more energy and feeling more motivated to tackle the day.

Encouraged by this, I gradually increased my morning exercise. Now, I start each day with a 30-minute workout. It’s become something I genuinely look forward to – it’s my time to focus on myself and my wellbeing.

The transformation has been remarkable. Exercise not only wakes me up physically but mentally too. It sets a positive tone for the day and provides a sense of accomplishment first thing in the morning.

You don’t have to run a marathon or hit the gym for hours. Even a short walk or some light yoga can make a significant impact on how you feel. Trust me, I’ve been there.

3) Hydrating first thing in the morning

After a long night of sleep, your body is naturally dehydrated. So, it’s no surprise that one of the first things I started doing was drinking a glass of water as soon as I wake up.

Water kick-starts your metabolism, helps your body flush out toxins, and can even aid in weight loss. Plus, it’s an easy habit to adopt.

You might think that coffee or tea is a better way to start your day, but caffeine can actually dehydrate you further. It’s much better to begin with water and then move onto your caffeinated beverage of choice.

So try swapping out that first cup of coffee in the morning with a glass of water. You might be surprised at how much more alert and refreshed you feel.

4) Creating a to-do list for the day

Without a clear plan for the day, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and unproductive. That’s why one of the first things I do each morning is create a to-do list.

This isn’t just about jotting down tasks. It’s about prioritizing what needs to get done and setting realistic goals for the day.

I found that having a tangible list of tasks gives me a sense of purpose each morning. Plus, there’s something incredibly satisfying about ticking off tasks as I complete them.

Remember, the goal isn’t to create an endless list of tasks but to focus on what’s truly important. This way, even on busy days, you’re ensuring that your time and energy are spent on the things that matter most to you.

5) Limiting my exposure to technology

This was a tough one for me. Like many people, I had a habit of checking my phone as soon as I woke up. Emails, social media, news – it was an information overload before I’d even brushed my teeth.

I soon realized that this habit was causing me more stress than I’d like to admit. Instead of starting my day calm and focused, I was immediately thrown into a whirlwind of notifications and updates.

So, I made a conscious decision to limit my exposure to technology in the mornings. Now, the first hour after waking up is a tech-free time for me.

This small change has had a big impact on my overall mood and productivity. Instead of being reactive to what’s happening in the digital world, I’m now proactive about how I want to start my day.

It can be challenging at first, but trust me, it’s worth it. You’ll be amazed at how much more relaxed and present you feel when you start your day without the constant buzz of technology.

6) Eating a nutritious breakfast

The saying goes, “breakfast is the most important meal of the day,” and I couldn’t agree more.

Starting the day with a balanced and nutritious breakfast has been a game-changer for me. It’s not just about filling my stomach; it’s about fueling my body with the right nutrients to keep me energized and focused throughout the day.

Instead of reaching for sugary cereals or pastries, I opt for foods rich in protein, fiber, and healthy fats. Things like eggs, avocados, whole grains, fruits, and nuts are now my go-to choices.

So make time for breakfast, even if it means waking up a little earlier. Your body (and brain) will thank you for it.

7) Practicing mindfulness

If there’s one habit that has had the most profound impact on my life, it’s practicing mindfulness.

Mindfulness is about being fully present in the moment, without judgment or distraction. It’s about acknowledging your thoughts and feelings, but not letting them control you.

For me, this means starting each day with a short meditation session. Just ten minutes of silence and deep breathing can make all the difference.

Mindfulness has helped me gain a deeper understanding of myself and my emotions. It’s allowed me to start each day with a clear mind and a renewed sense of purpose.

And the best part? Anyone can practice mindfulness. All it takes is a willingness to slow down and pay attention to the present moment.

So give it a try. It might just be the missing piece that takes your mornings from mundane to magnificent.
